There Was a Wire Screen Between Us
I could have
just died,
no kidding,
when my girlfriend
came to visit me
for the first time
while I was in jail.
I was wearing
a white uniform.
There was a wire screen
between us.
"Hi," Carol said,
and she smiled
weak as water.
I could have
just died.
